If You’re Not Careful, Your Face Will Freeze That Way
Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and I can’t help but think of some of the fabulous wisdom passed on to us by our mothers. Sometimes they have wacky things to say (see above.) More often than not, however, their advice is very helpful. Let’s look at a few:
You get what you ask for. Matthew 7:7-8 says, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it shall be opened.” Are we asking the right questions, or are we looking for trouble?
If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Proverbs 21:23 says, “Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles.” Are we saying things that are true, necessary, and kind?
If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you do that, too? Romans 12:2 says, “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” Are we merely in this world…or are we of this world?
Everything’s going to be all right. Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Are we worrying about things over which we have no control?
Go ask your father. James 5:16 says, “Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” Are we taking the time to talk to our Father?
